Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery announces its first sale of original works on paper

Art and architecture News from our houses Things to see and do

Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, in partnership with Ealing gallery For Arts Sake, is delighted to announce its first sale of original works on paper. Dedicated entirely to original works on paper, For Arts Sake x Pitzhanger will showcase over 150 pieces in Pitzhanger Gallery, by both established and emerging artists. The display, which will be updated over the Christmas season, will feature various printmaking techniques, including limited editions and monoprints, screen prints, etchings, woodcuts, lithographs, linocuts, as well as original paintings on paper, oil pastels, acrylics, and mixed media works. Many of the pieces are newly created or previously unseen, offering visitors a unique opportunity to purchase original framed art in the run-up to the festive season.

For Arts Sake has curated works on paper by renowned contemporary artists such as Sir Peter Blake, Bruce McLean and Dan Baldwin, alongside emerging talents like Kate Mary, Aline Gaiad and Marcus Aitken. Fellow Royal Academicians Barbara Rae, Donald Hamilton Fraser and Paul Huxley, will also be featured, making this an unmissable celebration of artistic styles and media to appeal to a range of tastes and budgets starting from £88.

A highlight of the display is a limited edition silkscreen on paper by Sir Peter Blake, the celebrated English and locally based pop artist best known for co-creating the iconic sleeve design for The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Sources of Pop Art 7 is a colourful montage featuring images from 1960s cultural icons including Elvis Presley, James Dean, Shirley Temple, Marilyn Monroe and Mickey Mouse. This rare silkscreen print has been created with high gloss, matt glazes, diamond dust and red glitter by the “Godfather of Pop Art”.

On the opening day, Saturday 14 December, visitors can also hop onboard the Peter Blake Art Bus, a mobile gallery designed by Blake himself. Decorated with vibrant pop art imagery, the bus will roll up and park at the entrance to Pitzhanger for one day only!

Other notable artists include Scottish sculptor and painter Bruce McLean, known for his bold performance art and vibrant prints, and Dan Baldwin, whose work blends abstract and figurative elements in dynamic silk screens. Printmaker Jess Wilson will also be showcasing a special Ealing themed work, exclusively made for For Arts Sake.

This is a great chance to buy an original for your home or as a special present for those hard-to-shop-for people. And to make it more accessible and easier to buy contemporary art, For Arts Sake will offer the Own Art scheme, offering interest-free credit. Visitors can spread the cost of their purchase over 10 months, making original art more accessible and affordable. This scheme is ideal for both seasoned collectors and those looking to start their own collection.

And better still, with every sale made, a proportion of the proceedings will go to funding Pitzhanger’s community projects and outreach programmes.

Clare Gough, Director of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, said: “We are delighted to partner with the excellent gallery For Arts Sake for this unique selling display, celebrating both local creativity and established artistic talent. We are excited to give visitors the chance to discover and take home a beautiful and unique artwork that chimes with them, while supporting the vital community work of Pitzhanger.”

Erica Davis, Director of For Arts Sake, said: We are thrilled to curate a display celebrating works on paper on the beautiful walls of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery. Bringing together both established and up-and-coming artists, this display encompasses all mediums and styles. Partnering with Pitzhanger gives us an opportunity to support the local community that we have been a part of for over 40 years.

Visitors to Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery can also enjoy two other exhibitions: Antoni Malinowski and Hélène Binet: Pigments and Photons and Language of the Physical: Katherine Gili’s Sculpture.
