Logie House Walled Garden is open to visitors every day, although the house itself remains a family home. Originally a traditional walled garden with formal annual planting within box and yew hedging, large areas of vegetable production and colourful herbaceous borders, the planting is now more relaxed with a large number of interesting trees and shrubs and the aim of creating year-round interest. Different areas have been developed to provide a variety of conditions to suit a wide range of plants and planting styles and the burn is a focal point meandering through the garden.
Plants from the garden are propagated for sale in the nearby Farm & Garden Shop. This is one of the handful of independent businesses at Logie Steading – the sandstone buildings that were built as a Model Farm by Sir Alexander Grant, the inventor of the Digestive biscuit, in 1926.
Shopping, eating, and more
A short stroll from the garden is Logie Steading Visitor Centre with an acclaimed café and shops including the Farm & Garden Shop which includes in its range estate Longhorn beef, Roe venison, lamb, pork and hardy plants, many of which are propagated here in the garden. The other independent shops include an art gallery, second hand book shop, crafts, gifts, timber showroom (for the estate’s sawmill), and men’s and ladies’ fashion boutiques. There is a landscaped playpark and picnic area, which is also the starting point for waymarked walks along the beautiful gorge of the River Findhorn.
