A strong and well-preserved keep or Pele tower with suitably rugged interiors; Lennoxlove, at its heart, was extended in the 17th-century into a more comfortable house.

This delightful castle now contains the Dukes of Hamilton collections of pictures, furniture and porcelain in addition to the death mask, famous letter casket, and other mementoes of Mary Queen of Scots.

Getting here

Haddington, East Lothian, EH41 4NZ

Lennoxlove is just 20 miles from Edinburgh and a mile off the A1.

Do not rely on local signposting, which is particularly difficult to find and read.

From Edinburgh, leave the A1 at the second Haddington exit, Abbotsview Junction. At the roundabout take the B6369 towards Gifford. Cross over the traffic lights in Haddington and a hump back bridge as you leave the town. Approximately 600 metres after the bridge turn right into Lennoxlove Estate and follow the avenue of trees to the signed visitor parking area.
