Most of the grounds are accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs, with accessible access up to the lawns in front of the Castle. The path within the woodland is unmade and uneven in places but mostly suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs – please note this is dependent on the weather as the woodland paths can get muddy when wet.
The Castle has steps at the entrance up to the first floor and to access all floors within so is not suitable for wheelchairs and prams. Lifting services can be booked for weddings and private events in the Castle in advance if required, please contact us for more information about this service.
The Georgian House has a few shallow steps on the ground floor however ramps can be provided to make this level fully accessible.
Hedingham Castle is a private haven that was built to impress. The entire estate can be hired for all manner of events – from milestone celebrations and exclusive holiday retreats, to corporate retreats or LARP events and as a filming location with multiple backdrops, and everything in between.
If you are after something more low key, choose one of our charming holiday cottages for a relaxing country break, or you may prefer to stay in the unique Royal Chamber which situated inside the Castle itself.
Whatever you are looking for, Hedingham was built for entertaining.

The sensitively restored 900-year-old Norman Keep is one of the most unique venues for corporate and social entertaining in East Anglia, a striking and unusual location for product launches, team building or private parties.
The magnificent Tapestry Room on the ground floor, seating up to 70, can be used for medieval banquets or more formal dinners, with further floors available upstairs for receptions, conferences or dancing.
Surrounded by the tree lined privacy of the inner bailey there is ample space for activities and freedom to explore the paths around the lake, the formal gardens and the wilder woodland.

Accommodation at Hedingham Castle
In a private, self-contained garden just inside the entrance to the Hedingham Estate, the Tudor Lodge can sleep up to 17 people in comfortable, well equipped period surroundings.
With a huge sitting room and dining area, the Lodge provides the perfect base for families and friends to explore the North Essex countryside, the races at Newmarket or the Colleges of Cambridge.
In the winter, a log fire makes returning from a bracing walk in the secluded woodlands around the Castle a delight. Unfortunately, because of the age of the building, the Lodge is not accessible to wheelchair users.
