There were 3 or 4 Manor houses mentioned in the Doomsday Book.

Present Manor dates from 1563, built on the site of a former Manor rented by Thomas Hussey and his mother, and completed by 1589; designed and built by William Arnold. A small addition on the north side was built in Jacobean times, with a notable stained oak staircase leading through an archway from the entrance Hall. The main addition, probably designed and built by Francis Cartright , and completed by his colleages the Bastard brothers in 1760, were two “wings” either side of the Elizabethan manor. The imposing brick west front was built in the Palladian style.
