The Giffard family assisted in the escape of King Charles II after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester. The Giffards took him to Boscobel House which belonged to the family and was put in the protection of their tenants who then hid him in an oak tree.
The Hall is the third building to be on this site. The current house was designed in two parts, the earlier south wing was designed by Francis Smith of Warwick, and sixty years later the rest of the house was designed by Sir John Soane.
The Parklands were designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 1760’s. He created a large Lake with an artificial canal and disguised the dam with a bridge designed by James Paine.
