Bowhill House has been the principal home of the Scotts of Buccleuch for over two centuries. The House’s history gives it many great tales.
It also houses one of the world’s greatest private art collections including masterpieces by Canaletto, Raeburn, Reynolds and Gainsborough.
You’ll find stunning French furniture, Mortlake Tapestries, antique porcelain and portrait miniatures. A new exhibition, Love and Respect in the Victorian Age, opened in 2017 and features many new items on display from the renowned Collection.
Outside the House you’ll find beautiful walks, gardens and an adventure playground for the little ones. The café serves a tasty selection of cakes, coffees and light lunches to treat yourself to.
Please note: The information on the Historic Houses website is advisory, but please always check the website of the house or garden you intend to visit before travelling.
Sadly Bowhill House will be closed for the 2024 Season as the House is undergoing maintenance.
We look forward to welcoming the public and groups back in 2025.
