Cambo’s 2.5 acre walled garden dates from the 1800’s and our visitors keep describing it as ‘stunning’! We endeavour to create areas of year round interest and the garden is constantly changing, developing and innovating through the passions of our horticulture team. From early interest in our winter gardens (highlighting our Plant Heritage national collection of snowdrops) through to our late season naturalistic plantings and prairie garden (unique in Scotland!) there is always a reason to visit Cambo.
Cambo looks after the Plant Heritage national snowdrop collection, and we have over 350 varieties. During snowdrop season follow the markers through the stunning winter gardens or pick up a map to discover a wonderful array of snowdrops and aconites carpeting the woodlands all the way down to the sea.
You can also join one of the Garden Team on regular tours to discover more about Galanthus, and the long association with Cambo.
As the snowdrop season ends, the woodlands explode with colour as daffodils, tree blossom and primroses take the stage, providing an understated beauty as they nestle along Cambo burn. As May approaches, the woodlands are filled with the aroma of Wild Garlic with their distinctive explosion of white spiky flowers.
From May to early June the walled garden is filled with our extensive allium collection popping blues and purples everywhere with our magical lilac walk adding further colour and fragrance.
In June our historic rose collection fills the walled garden with colour and fragrance with Lady Erskine leading regular tours of their stories and significance at Cambo.
From August our double herbaceous borders are reaching their flowering peak in rich reds, purples and blues. Our annual potager provides a place for experimentation and planting innovation – often flowering from August right through to late November.
Regular events and activities are held throughout the year, and there is a small ‘Lost Elf Village’ nature playground for young children.
In addition to the Gardens, there are woodland walks down to the beach, and paths to explore on the wider estate, which also includes the Kingsbarns Distillery which is also open to visitors
