Newby Hall Gardens near Ripon is the perfect place to meet up with family and friends as there really is something for everyone.
Newby Hall is one of England’s renowned Adam houses. In the 1760s William Weddell, an ancestor of the current owners, acquired a magnificent collection of ancient Roman sculpture and Gobelins tapestries. He commissioned Robert Adam to alter the original Wren-designed house, and Thomas Chippendale to make furniture. The result is a perfect example of the Georgian ‘Age of Elegance’ with the atmosphere and ambience of a family home.

Groups of 15 or more can benefit from discounted entry plus free entry for group leaders, couriers and coach drivers.
Newby presents endless opportunities for an inspirational educational visit. The ancient sculptures in the Statue Gallery and the interactive Zimbabwean Sculpture Workshops (from June) give wonderful scope for discovering the arts.
The woodland walk and gardens provide a wealth of material, while the house itself is a very special environment in which to explore form, colour, design and mathematical proportion as well as architecture and social history. During June, July and August, Matombo Zimbabwean Sculpture workshops are available free of charge for all ages – please ask.
Newby’s wonderful adventure playground is a fantastic place to let off steam with an amazing variety of experiences including the miniature railway. There is a large picnic area close to the coach park for lunch and if it is wet, we will do our best to provide undercover space.

25 acres of stunning award-winning gardens contain rare and beautiful shubs and plants, including the National Collection of the genus Cornus (dogwoods). Newby’s famous double herbaceous borders make the perfect walkway to the River Ure. Formal gardens such as the Autumn and Rose Garden, the tranquility of Sylvia’s Garden and a Tropical Garden make Newby an inspiring and exciting place to explore.
The Adventure Gardens & Teddy Bear Exhibition
Newby is also home to the exciting Adventure Gardens – with a sand pit, swings, dancing water fountains, miniature railway, pedalo boats, aerial zip wire and much, much more.
You’ll find the famous Teddy Bear Exhibition and wonderful Dollshouse Exhibition featuring over 65 exquisite houses which will thrill and delight everyone from 4 to 94. Don’t leave without visiting our fantastic garden restaurant and amazing design led shop.
