Towneley Hall is temporarily closed until Spring 2025 for essential repairs and restoration works.

Towneley Hall is set in over 400 acres of historic parkland and small formal gardens with woodland walks, trails and a large children’s play area.

The Hall contains fine period rooms hung with original 19th-century oil and water colour paintings including works by Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema, Waterhouse and Johan Zoffany. The Hall is home to the Whalley Abbey Vestments and a vast collection of Lancashire-made oak furniture as well as a Egyptology collection and Decorative Arts room.

Visitors can also explore life below stairs in the Victorian kitchen.

Please note Towneley Hall is undergoing a major building and restoration programme. Some rooms will be temporarily unavailable to the public, please check the website before your visit.

Why our members love visiting Towneley Hall

Towneley Hall in Burnley, Lancashire

Anne - Visited August and September 2021

“The approach along Todmorden Road is staggeringly beautiful through a deep wooded gorge with little villages. When the leaves change for autumn it will be even more beautiful. The Hall with 400 acres was a generous gift of the Townley family soon to be covered in red ivy, in front of which there is a lake/pond with fountain and ducks, park eatery and benches to relax. There are flower beds, walks, 3 golf courses for different abilities, farm, art exhibitions, it has a happy atmosphere and everyone seems to love it. Some people go there every day – it has a magical, peaceful atmosphere.”
