The thousand acre Pitchford Estate is a dairy, sheep and arable farm with extensive woodland located six miles south of Shrewsbury in one of England’s most rural counties, Shropshire. Boasting architectural oddities, wandering cigar-smoking ghosts and the weight of centuries, there’s plenty to discover on the Pitchford Estate.
Exceptionally fine half-timbered house, owned by the Colthurst family for 500 years, sold in 1992. Placed on the ‘at risk’ register, it has been bought back by Rowena Colthurst and her husband and restoration is ongoing. Prince Rupert hid from the Roundheads in the priest hole here and Queen Victoria played in the Tudor-style treehouse as a child.
Go on a private tour of Pitchford Hall and explore the main rooms on the ground floor, including the great hall and drawing room. Guests will also visit the Priest Hole Room and the Princess Victoria Room. The Victorian Kitchen and General’s Quarters are often included in the tour but dependant on the current state of the rooms.
About half the tour takes place outside, so please bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear in case of wet weather.

Do not follow SatNav.
Leave the A5 (Shrewsbury Bypass) at large roundabout. Take the Bridgnorth turnoff for the A458. Drive past the business park and you will come to Weeping Cross roundabout. Turn left continuing towards Bridgnorth on A458. After about 100 metres turn right signposted Pitchford. Drive along winding country road for 5 miles towards Pitchford Village. You will pass Cantlop Bridge and the disused Cantlop garage (currently Condover Computers) on your way to Pitchford. About a mile after the disused garage there is a hard left bend. Go down the straight and the North Lodge (gatehouse) is on your right. Turn down the lime tree drive for about 400 meters and just before the church you will turn into the carriage way drive of Pitchford Hall. Please park outside the Hall if there’s space, if not park next to the church or up the lime tree drive.
